My husband and I have rings (plain gold bands) which we exchanged during the ceremony. Neither of us likes to wear jewelry so we don't wear our rings on a daily basis--only for special occasions like the annual office Christmas party of to the opera. It's more important to feel married than to have a symbol of marriage on your finger. And if one doesn't feel married, no wedding ring can substitute for that.

My husband is in the trades, too. Just get him a regular wedding band, but he doesn't wear it to work. LOTS of men do this.
Actually, my husband and I just talked about this the other day. He was holding my hand at the time, and lifted it up to his chest and he said, 'My wedding band is in my heart,' when I asked how he felt about not being able to wear one. The dude made me cry happy tears!

I think it would be great to get him one to wear when he is not at work. Afterall, he can't be working all the time.

This would be even more dramatic, but I've always thought a tatooed wedding band would be awesome. Though, I'm sure most people would disagree.

Maureen

Go ahead with the wedding band, but he only wears it "out" like for Church, or going out to eat. You are an awesome woman for understanding what a danger this is. and very mature!!! My husband always wore his until one day he was taking some old stairs off a building, his ring got caught and almost tore his finger off. That was thirty years ago. It bothered me at first, I was young, but we are still together, very much in love and his fingers are still on his hand! I hope he knows what a great woman he is getting! best wishes to both of you.

My fiance also has a job working with machinery. We bought him a wedding band anyway. He is just not going to wear it to work and I'm fine with that.

My brother is an automechanic and only wears his ring when he's not working. I've known several guys who do manual labor who do this, so I don't think you really need an alternative to a ring.

It's a habit he'll have to get into once you're married--take it off before he shower in the morning and put it back on after he showers in the evening.

You can still use the wedding band for him. He just shouldn't wear it to work. No biggie. Do not get him anything that can get caught in machinery. People have nice intentions, but a necklace WILL strangle him to death should it get caught.

Kelly

having a wedding band he can treasure but not wear to work? he could save it for special occasions? that's what my grandfather did.

or he could wear another piece of jewelry? an earring, a necklace.. try to think of something safe. many men where their wedding bands on a chain around their neck, but that can be very hazardous when working with heavy machinery too.

tattoo is another option. it's not something i'd like for my husband, but hey, if you two like tatts, why not go for it??

If he's a tattoo kind of person, he could get a tattooed wedding band (or a tattoo of your wedding date on his finger). If not, just get him a sterling silver wedding band (or one made out of another metal less expensive than gold) so that he can wear it when he's not working but that won't be a huge loss if he loses it from taking it off so frequently.
